Christmas Frame Addition & Monday’s Menu

Entryway Christmas Decorations

I hope you all had a good weekend, holding your families close in response to the tragedy in Connecticut. It’s about the only thing that makes sense when our world is shaken by such senseless tragedy. It’s too much for words, but my family was comforted to be able to go to our church’s Christmas concert on Friday and be able to lift all those families involved up in prayer together. Our hearts and prayers will continue to be with them.

And my extended family did gather together for a holiday celebration. It was wonderful to spend time with everyone, and it made for a whirlwind of a weekend. Since we celebrated early, though, it makes this next week kinda calm and I’m going to focus on getting a few {dozen} batches of goodies made. I did want to share with you, though, this simple addition I made to our entryway table after I took the Christmas decoration photos I posted last week:

Isn’t is fun? A little French in homage to my seven years of high school and college French classes (from which I only remember numbers, colors, and some key phrases, sadly), and a little glamor from the mirrored frame = love. And how simple was that? I already had the frame and just replaced the photo with a faux chalkboard printable that I found here (I did have to cut it down to fit the frame).

MPM-Winter-12 When I made our menu this week, I was thinking about easy, comforting foods that would be nourishing to contrast with all the inevitable tasting that will be going on in a house full of holiday treats. That worked out to two slow cooker meals, soup, and oven chicken pie:

MondaySlow Cooker Spiced Whole Chicken, Tasty Rice (family favorite), Baked Grated Carrots, salad

Tuesday– Holiday party (I’m bringing an appetizer and a cookie plate)

WednesdayIndividual Chicken-Tomato Shepherd’s Pie, Easy Sourdough Artisan Bread, Salad

Thursday– Slow Cooker Chicken with Plum Sauce, wrapped in tortillas with cabbage-broccoli slaw, vegetables & Creamy Feta Dip

Friday– Clam chowder, Amazing Whole Wheat Flaky Biscuits, salad

SaturdayHomemade Pizza

Sunday– Family holiday gathering (bringing dessert…mmm, maybe this pie again?)

Are you having any holiday gatherings this week? What are you bringing?

I’m so glad you were able to celebrate with your family. We are spending our time as a family, without the distractions and overwhelming events that usually surround the holidays. I had already made the decision to spend Christmas more simply…and it seems so fitting now.

    Merry Christmas!
