Hello! We’re in the home stretch here with our move – just a few more things (and they’re the big ones like the a fridge and freezer…) and a good clean out and we’re done.
You know, as I wrote that, my feelings were like “yay!” and “yikes!” all at once – does that make sense? On one hand it’s been so sloooow (I overheard someone in a coffee shop say it was Oregon that has become known for taking so long to close houses…) and I’m ready to be done with it, but on the other we’re going to be homeless for awhile and aren’t sure what the future holds.
But there are good things with that, too, like adventure, freedom (hey, we won’t have a house to take care of!), the pursuit of our next home and seeing what God has in store. 🙂
Oh, and never worry about our space here at AOC – I will always meet you here no matter where I am, providing you with recipes, tips, crafts, and ways to help you keep living simple DIY lives full of imperfect beauty!
On to this week’s things I’m loving – and a few links I think you’ll love! (as always, some of the links I provide are affiliate links)
Freezing the last of our peppers – and updating the old blog article. I had a bag full of Anaheim peppers I harvested last week before we got hit with a flood of storms. I had the mover’s dilemma – compost them in this special circumstance or deal with them? Luckily, I know it takes just a few minutes of chopping to preserve peppers in the freezer. Thirty minutes later I had enough chopped peppers ready to be frozen to fill 2 quart bags. Yay!
Our new Ecobee3 Smarter Wi-Fi Thermostat. Our old programmable thermostat had been broken for about a year – we’ve just manually turned it on and off since we couldn’t fork over the $400+ we were told it would cost to replace it. But that wouldn’t do for the new owners and we thought we had no choice but to call the heating company and pay for the expensive thermostat.
Uh, the times, they are a-changin.’ My dad told us about a thermostat you can get on Amazon (what?) that also has directions to install it yourself (what the what?). We didn’t even know this was possible! We looked and sure enough, it has great reviews and they said it’s easy to install, so we bought the Ecobee3 at half the price of the heating company quote.
Guess what? It was easy to install and Brian found the directions to be super well-written with labels for the wiring (ingenious!) and a level built into the wall mount, as well as instructions to ‘stop and take a picture,’ (which made us laugh, but is so smart). We love it- it’s easy to program, has a remote sensor, and will work with Alexa if you have that technology (although, I do wish it came in another color – a black thing on the white wall is not high on my list of good things). Be sure to check it out here if you’re in the market for a thermostat!
Almost packed up! And still loving the furniture plastic wrap. This has been our life for the past week – wrapping things up in the awesome plastic as well as boxing and bagging things up. We’ve been moving gradually into storage, so that helped with the stress, but the rest of the stuff has to come out this weekend. If you’re on Instagram, I’ll try to add a few updates to our progress – it’s been so rainy here, we’re hoping for a break just to make things a bit easier!
