Writings Around The Web

Hey there- I hope you all are having a great weekend! I’ve been wanting to share a couple of articles I’ve written for other sites over the last month, but haven’t been able to fit them in my regular posting schedule, so I thought I’d just slip them in on the weekend.

I’m super happy with the way my article listing 5 Simple Ways to Add Cottage Character for The Happy Housewife turned out, especially the picture above. Sometimes I still can’t believe that’s the 1982 ranch house we bought almost eight years ago.

I do so love that porch!

And while we have done a few major projects, there have been many more simple ones that have blurred the lines between the past and the present for our house. And “cottage character” to me is more about creating a warm, welcoming environment than a certain style.

I’ve also shared a couple of recipes on About One’s blog, In A Nutshell:

Easy Slow Cooker Scalloped Potatoes with Garlic is my favorite way to make this dish. They come out perfect every time. And since I usually serve this with a ham or chicken that takes up most of the room in the oven, I don’t have to figure out how to fit the potatoes in as well. I think this would work in the summer, too – no heating the oven and the potatoes would go well with grilled meat, too.

I will be making Black Bean, Corn, and Pepper Salad a lot this summer, you can be sure. It’s one of my favorite “chopped salad” recipes and takes about 10 minutes from start to finish.

Oh, and it tastes good, too.

On a totally different note, don’t forget that Swagbucks has a special sign-up code for June- go here to sign up and use the code JUNETASTIC while signing up to get an extra 70 bucks! If you’re wondering what I’m talking about, read this post where I went into a bit more details few weeks ago. And since referrals are a great way to earn more bucks, yes, I’m using my referral link now. {wink}

    I agree…character in a home starts with the welcome feeling guest have when the first arrive!
    Nobody wants to be where they aren’t wanted.
    We’ve been spending some time getting the front of our home dressed for company.
    When will they arrive? I don’t know. But when they get here…I want them to know we’ve been expecting them.
    Just went to read your article… loved it.
