Oh my goodness, friends, it’s December! So many things to do, people to see, and food to eat this month, huh? I do love this time of year, though I have to constantly choose the best over merely the good so we get to enjoy the reason for the season, if you know what I mean.
I made a couple of these sweet rosemary wreaths yesterday (that I shared on Instagram) using cuttings from a huge bush in our herb garden and I am completely in love with them! They are my favorite thing so far for this year’s Christmas decorations (last year it was the fun white wool pom pom wreath and garland, which I am reusing, too). Especially because I didn’t have to buy anything to make them and they took about 5 minutes each, ha!
Look for more sweet and simple Christmas decorations during the next few weeks – I’m leaning towards a more minimalist look this year, only using a few of my favorite decorations with natural elements and white lights. We’ll see how that goes, though, once I open the boxes and remember what I have.
We’ve had quite a few frosty mornings, which isn’t unusual here. But days of 20-24 degree lows are a bit unusual – we normally get the light frosts of 30-32 degrees. The forecast for the rest of this week calls for lows of 18 – brrrr. Which will make baking bread and holiday treats that much more warming!
Like this pear-cranberry ‘big crumb’ pie I made for our little family post-thanksgiving meal we had yesterday. Am I the only one who does this? I like to make all our favorite dishes (that we don’t get at other’s houses) and a turkey for us so we can have the leftovers and bones for traditional turkey soup, so I plan our meal for the Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. It’s now a holiday tradition for us.
In addition to our favorite cookies and holiday foods (like The Best Cinnamon Rolls…sigh) we’ll be eating this month, here are some other meals I’ve got scheduled. Most are comforting, easy meals since there’s so many other things going on.
Enchilada Pie, salad, chips & salsa (held over from last month)
General Tso’s chicken (new recipe), slow cooker rice (1st time trying this…), Spicy Asian slaw (held over from last month)
Burgers with Quick & Tender Homemade Buns, oven fries
Turkey tetrazini-like pasta dish, salad
Slow Cooker Pork & Kale Stew, Bread, cut vegetables
Clam Chowder, salad, Flaky Whole Wheat Biscuits
Pad Thai, stir fry vegetables
Spaghetti made with Roasted Tomato Sauce from freezer
