Happy weekend – I hope you get to enjoy it in a fun and/or relaxing way! My week was spent catching up on work after the previous week’s travel – I even recorded my first Facebook Live for our Healthy Living Challenge group all about willpower! I guess it isn’t technically my first FB live, because we recorded a short one from a show we saw last summer, but this is the first “I’m talking to the camera trying to make a point and be clear” video. (I’m hoping that I actually was!)
So this Three Things is about what stopped me in my tracks this week, what I’m making, what I’m watching, and what I’m reading – plus the links I think you’ll like, of course! Let me know what you’re doing in the comments – I love hearing what you’re up to, too. (as always, some of the links I provide are affiliate links)
What stopped me in my tracks, literally: As I came over a hill on a typical Oregon rainy day, the sun peaked out behind me and created this beautiful full rainbow. It was so strong that all the colors were visible and I could see both ends. How many times does that happen?
I had no choice but to pull over and snap a picture with my phone, right? What a way to make a dreary day beautiful! Even though there wasn’t a pot of gold on either end. 😉
Making: a pair of easy knitted basketweave pillow covers. I found this free pattern for basketweave pillows that seemed like they’d be quick and uncomplicated (kind of like my basketweave knitted throw) – and they are. Once the pattern is set, it’s easy to keep working without having to refer to the pattern. Which makes it perfect to knit while watching TV or in the car – the two places I knit the most.
The yarn I’m using is Wool of the Andes Bulky Yarn from Knit Picks in a wine color, and I pretty much knit everything now with Knit Pick’s interchangeable needles on circular cables even if the pattern calls for straight needles (this one doesn’t). I just find the circular needles SO much easier to knit with (no flopping long needle ends…) and it’s easy to buy the circular needle cables in different sizes (I’m using a 32″ cable for this project.) Here’s a link to the interchangeable needle set, but you can also buy individual needle tips. They were a game-changer for my knitting!

Watching (while knitting!): The Crown on Netflix. You may remember I had this on my to-watch list a few weeks ago and a number of you praised it so highly that I moved it to the top. We started watching it this week and are a couple episodes into it. You were right- it is good! They do a good job of building tension and anticipation even though we know most of the story. It’s fun to get a glimpse into the lives of the royals, too, in a different era.
The only downside is that Netflix has to stuff things in there to push the edge, it seems, to just be different than network TV. So you have a totally unnecessary naked backside shot – it’s dim light, but still – sheesh. I’m hoping they don’t ruin it with too much of this in the episodes we haven’t watched yet.
Reading: Spend Your Days. This is one of the eBooks from the Conquer Your Clutter Bundle sale, and happens to be the new book from Tsh Oxenrider. It’s very good and she writes in such a real-life, approachable way. I’m being challenged to really think about how I want to spend my days, even more than I have been lately. I’m so glad this book is included in the bundle!
I’m also going through an eCourse on how to make printables easier, since I’d love to be able to offer you guys more things to add value to your lives. There are a lot more printables and ebooks on organizing, decluttering, and planning.
