Hello, hello - how are you all doing this weekend before Thanksgiving? If you missed it yesterday, go here to download the checklist I made to help you get ready for T-Day in advance so there's no last minute stress. I'm actually pretty happy I finally wrote things down and the days to do them - I was starting to do it on a notepad and then just thought it would be good to share with you, too!
I'm already planning to make these amazing rolls (which freeze wonderfully after baking) and the whole apple pie I can freeze as well as pie crusts that can be waiting in the freezer for Wednesday. Oh, yeah, and clean the house - I'll definitely want to get that out of the way!
On to this week’s things I’m loving – and a few links I think you’ll love! (as always, some of the links I provide are affiliate links)
Updated Nettle Tea Infusion article. I have been meaning to update this article I wrote a couple years ago for awhile since it's not working quite the same for me as it did initially. Boo.
BUT I do still daily drink this tea infusion because it's another arrow in my arsenal of tactics to keep my bones healthy as I age. There's a lot of information on how good both nettles and oatstraw are for bone health (as well as other things) so it's all good. I added dried rose hips last year, too, for a natural vitamin C boost and I love the aroma and flavor it adds to the tea along with the mint.
Have any of you tried this infusion or one like it?
The yummy peppermint scent in this week's free Mrs. Meyers offer from Grove. Minty smells in the home are so fresh - it's totally fun to have this in a soap form! I hope those of you who can (meaning new customers) have taken advantage of this deal for 3 free Mrs. Meyer's cleaning product plus a cool little Bubble Up brush with your $20 purchase that's only good through the 21st - I wouldn't promote this if it weren't a great deal, I promise.
In fact, it's similar to the deal I got when I signed up a couple years ago and while you can cancel your subscription at any time (you always have a choice, though, if you want anything sent during the month), I never have because I really love the company and the products they carry. Psst: if you're already a Grove customer like me, they're taking care of you with 50% off the sweet little Bubble Up brush.
Date night movies. Brian and I have been trying to have regular date nights- for the first time in our 28 years of marriage, believe it or not! We go out every other Tuesday and while we sometimes do other things, mostly it's dinner and a movie. Two recent ones we've seen and liked have been The Accountant with Ben Affleck and Arrival with Amy Adams.
Both of these were not what I was expecting. I thought The Accountant would be a typical action movie, but Ben Affleck's character has autism, so there was a really interesting level to the story as well as the back story. It is pretty violent in an action-movie kind of way, but seeing him cope and use his skills as an autistic person really made me like this more than I normally would have.
Then I thought Arrival was going to be a typical alien movie. Instead it is really about the character of Amy Adams and it's quite slow and thought-provoking with a mind-bending twist at the end. Brian and I were talking about it all the way home - in fact I had to Google it to find out more! It was really quite good.
Have you seen either of these? What did you think?
These beauties still blooming on my mom's deck. I'm so surprised that these plants are still blooming mid-November, but we haven't had any freezing weather yet, so that probably explains that.
I would like your help, though - do you have any idea what the plant is pictured in the bottom 2 photos? These 2 blooms are on the same plant, one is in bud and one fully blooming. I thought the leaves looked like New Guinea Impatiens, but I've never seen flowers like this on them before. They look more like gardenias or something. I'd love to know, since they are such long bloomers!
