Happy Saturday! Our weekly ‘Three Things” post is where you’ll find a peek into my week and some things that are making me happy. And yes, that’s more than 3 things, ha! I’m simply using 3 as a way to organize these weekly updates, though I’m known to throw in even a few more things – but we’ll call those ‘bonuses,’ okay? Let’s get started! (Note: the links I provide are often affiliate links, though not always.)
Three Things That Happened
I tagged along on a short business trip Brian had in Bend – they were putting him up in a hotel for the night, so why not, right? What a beautiful trip with spring-like weather, blue skies and snow-topped mountains. Plus, I always have fun hanging with Brian. 🙂
Speaking of spring…look at all the blooms coming up in our garden already! They are about two weeks earlier than normal, but it’s still such a glorious sight of a new gardening season. It just never gets old.
I finished book #4!! So far I’m smokin’ my book-a-month goal, right? And I think I’ll keep on this track for two reasons: 1.) making it a goal and announcing it here has made reading more intentional for me (thanks, friends!) and 2.) when I made the goal I started a list of recommended books on my phone from friends and online sources, which helps me to know what to borrow or buy so I always have something ready to read.
Now, about this book, Me Before You…I had read about this on a number of ‘best of 2014″ lists and when the Kindle version went on sale at Amazon for $2.99, I grabbed it. It is a pretty quick, fictional read with interesting characters…but I didn’t get the “best of” part that I’d read on all those lists. I didn’t care for it at all – the selfishness of the character we are supposed to sympathize with left me with a bad feeling for days. I could go on, really, but I won’t since I seem to be in the minority. I’ll leave it up to you, if you choose to read it. 🙂
Three Things I’m Loving
Some dear friends sent me this very special cookbook that they’ve published on Createspace written by their mom with generations of family recipes included. It is so sweet – it’s written by hand, so it’s like you’re reading a book written by your own family member. I’m going to share a bit more about it later, along with a delicious-looking bread recipe, but I just had to try these carmel pecan bars topped with chocolate. I mean, I had all the ingredients, so why wouldn’t I, right?
Like many of you, I never wore foundation when I was younger – in fact I don’t think I started wearing it until I was almost 40 and the fight against the dark circles, age spots and redness began. So I had no idea what I was doing and ended up with bottles of chalky-wrong shade-unwearable makeup. Then I discovered L’Oreal’s True Match line and I was able to use their system to pick the perfect color (colors actually – I wear W4 in summer and W3 in winter) which really does blend beautifully. I love it – my only fear is that they’ll stop making it and then I’ll have to go through the whole process again.
I am thankful for our electric blanket every.single.night. We used to use just an electric throw for our feet, but have graduated to a twin size (that we just lay on top of our regular blanket) since I literally have chills at night for the first half hour or so without it. We turn it on as we’re getting ready and leave it to warm for a bit before turning it off for the night. Sigh…warm toes = bliss.
What are you loving this week?
