Happy Saturday – how was your week? Ours was fun – it started with a family birthday party for our son and nephew. Most of the time if we plan a party in June, we hope for no rain so we can have it outdoors – last Saturday it was so hot we actually were driven inside for cake and gifts after the BBQ! That didn’t last, though – the rest of this week has been cooler and cloudy, more typical of Oregon in June.
We also moved our daughter home from college and I LOVE having her around again! It’s only for a month, though, before she travels overseas for a six-week missions trip but I’ll take whatever I can get.
On to this week’s things I’m loving – and the links I think you’ll love! (Some of the links I provide are affiliate links.)
Our repainted main bathroom. When we first remodeled our main bath I painted the walls above the beadboard with a color outside of my normal comfort zone (white, tan, green and yellow) – a light and pretty periwinkle. And I loved it – it made me happy for many years. But I had grown a bit tired of it and lately thought that the color against the 70s faux-marble tub surround highlighted the surround more than I wanted. Especially with the goal of showing the house to sell.
All it took was a few hours and it’s now a lightened, lovely white – all neutral for the next owners. There’s something about an all-white space that is clean and fresh, isn’t there? (Which, now that I think about it, is the message I’d like to give in a bathroom!) What do you think – do you like it better before or after?
The vacation watering tip that has saved my pots. I updated the photos on this old post and created a pin for you to pin (just click that link to pin!) to any gardening/home board you have because you will want to remember this tip, I promise!
While I did mention this tip in last week’s article on saving water & time in your garden, I didn’t republish the original article, though, and I didn’t want you to miss this so I thought I’d highlight it here for you. It is the season for weekend trips (and longer) and your plants will love you for giving them a long drink while you are gone – rather than die of thirst, ha!
It’s our first attempt at the quick, hands-only type of recipe videos, and I’d love you guys to check it out and let us know what you think! Hopefully we’ll be able to do more on a regular basis.

I prefer the ‘after’. We are painting to get the house ready to sell after 23 yrs in this house. Using a lot of white to give a clean, fresh look. Rooms seem to be bigger, too. We’ve been grilling our veggies for the past 2 yrs, on the “Griddler”. 8-10 mins and the veggies are transformed to taste like nothing you achieve thru steaming (Miallard process). Cabbage has become a recent favorite, so we look forward to eating w/your Onion Dijon Sauce-YUM!
OH, I have put down the brown paper floor in one bedroom and will be putting it in 2nd bath, once it is painted.

I love, love , love the after! The all white gives it the farm house fixer upper look that is so popular right now. Love the mirror in the after picture too! I would not change a thing! It is perfectly staged for selling!

Definitely prefer the ‘before’ bathroom. It had plenty of white to convey the message of cleaniness but showed a touch of personality. The all white version is blah and soulless, but you could perk it up with colored accessories. Otherwise it’s too plain. Sorry I can’t love your effort, but you asked for feedback so I’m hoping that included honest answers that aren’t necessarily what you wanted to hear.

Of course – I like both colors, too. 🙂 I was just ready for a change – and thought buyers would be more taken with a ‘clean slate’ if you know what I mean.

For selling the house white is excellent, but it was a happy colour before, I like both!

I love the white clean color.

Jami, I like both colors on the bathroom walls, but I think I do like the white better. What shade of white is that?
It’s funny how everything old is new again. It used to be that a great majority of house interiors were white. Then color of all kinds came into vogue and white was so passe. Now people are appreciating the clean look of white. I need to paint over my blechy-blue bathroom and think I’m going for that cottagy-white look too. It looks great in your bathroom.

It’s called “creamy white” by Behr, Amy – it’s a warm white which I like vs. gray/blue whites. Yes, I’ve noticed that too,in decorating…I wonder if it’s just us getting tired of color so we see-saw back and forth! 🙂

Oh good, Brenda, I had hoped so – it was really one of the most practical articles on writing I had read!
