Happy Saturday! Welcome to our weekly ‘Three Things” post where you’ll find a peek into my week and some things that are making me happy. Three things is just how I start, though – I throw in bonuses and links to some fun recipes, diy projects, and garden ideas that I find inspirational or helpful and think you will, too. So, yeah – you’ll want to read to the end! (Note: the links I provide are often affiliate links, though not always.)
Brian and I celebrated 27 years on Wednesday, which frankly is hard to believe. Except when I look at pictures and see how young we looked (though we were both in our mid-twenties so not that young). The passage of time is such a weird thing, right? It seems like it moved SO slow when we were kids, just dying to be adults…and now it goes so fast you think, “wait! I’m still trying to catch up…”
Nevertheless, I’m SO grateful for this man – I was incredibly grateful for him when we married (in fact I couldn’t believe he picked me!) – but 27 years later, I realize that God helped guide me to someone who’s been a perfect counterpoint and life mate. Integrity, humor, love, compassion, gentleness & caring all wrapped up in a yummy package. 🙂
We had one last summer hurrah in central Oregon with my folks (and the weather cooperated with summertime high temps- yeah!) and since both the kids were able to come this time, we made sure to snap a family picture. We even figured out how to get Samson to look at the camera – whoever is holding the camera asks about going for a walk and he immediately looks with his ears up. Yeah, it only took 10 years…can’t figure out why we didn’t try that before!
I announced this yesterday on Facebook, and I’m making it our third thing this week because I’m already loving it – we are going to host our very first challenge!! I’m calling it the Handmade Gift Challenge and in typical AOC style it will be easy, do-able, and fun!
We’ll all work towards producing one or more items that we will be able to give away for the upcoming holidays (or birthdays, hostess gifts, whatever). Longtime readers will know that I’m a big believer in handmade gifts – I think they are smart financially, more meaningful since your time is being given as well as money, and can be tailored to the recipient.
The challenge will run all through the month of October which is hopefully enough time to provide some inspiration, brainstorm ideas, and put at least a few gifts together. There will be printables, downloads, videos, and gift ideas galore all month long. On the blog I’ll be sharing new tutorials, republishing older ideas (check out our project gallery for our current handmade gift ideas), and gathering roundups from my blogging friends, but the day-to-day challenge and special VIP downloads will only be for those who sign up for the challenge!
Once you sign up for the challenge, you’ll receive short, daily emails and can shoot responses back to me with any questions or suggestions for topics (but don’t worry, the daily emails will only be for the month challenge, at the end of the month you can opt-in to receive our regular emails if you don’t already, or not – it’s up to you!). We can talk on AOC’s Facebook page as well, AND everyone who finishes a gift by the end the month will be entered in a random drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card. I think this is going to be so fun!!
Stay tuned for the official announcement and sign-up form on Monday – in the meantime, leave a comment and tell me – is this something you’re interested in? Would you like to create special, meaningful gifts for your family and friends?
