I love this quote from Julia Child – it pretty much sums up how I feel about cooking. Sometimes I don’t love the act of cooking (I’m not here to tell you that 300+ days of figuring out and cooking dinners doesn’t get old) but I do always love that good food feeds those that are special to me – and that is a gift I can always give. Do you agree?
A number of years ago (before the start of this blog, actually) I started consistently planning our family’s dinners weekly. It started because we were on a tight budget and I needed to know what to buy and to use up all we did buy. Then I realized how wonderful it felt each day as 5:00 rolled around that I knew exactly what to make (even better if that was a slow cooker meal that was already cooking!). #sanitysaver
I wrote about how this revolutionized dinner time in our house here (that’s been updated with new information) – and the easy tips I used to finally make meal planning a habit. I moved to monthly dinner plans (you can see many of our past dinner menus here) and I compiled some into a seasonal eating ebook complete with shopping lists that you can download for free in the subscriber library by signing up for AOC’s newsletter.
Then as we moved towards more real foods and worked to make our meals healthier, I realized that planning was instrumental in making sure that our meals were balanced. Healthy living and meal planning go hand-in-hand. And providing nourishing, healthy foods to my family = love.
So I am going on record as saying that the ONE thing you need to do that will help you save money, time, AND meet any healthy living goals you have is:
If you, like the old me (and let’s be honest – sometimes the current me when I ‘fall off the wagon!’), are tired of:
- Scrambling to make something decent out of what’s in your fridge.
- Resorting to compromise or convenience foods because you’re short on time.
- Battling weight gain and feeling discouraged that the family isn’t eating better.
- Wasting money on restaurants, food that goes bad, and too many last-minute grocery runs.
- Feeling like cooking is a burden instead of a joy.
Then let’s make 2018 the year to take control of what your family is eating once and for all, easily put homemade food on the table, ease dinnertime stress, waste less, and save money!
