Well friends, this is a fun post to write: I have long dreamed of having an ebook published through Amazon and now I get to announce that I do have my first ebook available!
It's called Real Food Recipes For Weight Loss: 18 easy entrees that will keep you satisfied as you slim down, and I'm pretty excited about it!
And even though it's only my name on the cover, I cannot take all the credit - it was Brian who spearheaded this project, compiling the content and doing the formatting.
I created two brand-new recipes (which I LOVE) and reworked some of the weight loss information, but without Brian's help I'd still be in that dreaming stage.
Why a weight loss book?
Long time readers will know the subject is near-and-dear to my heart (starting with this post about my weighty story), as is the fact that I know you CAN be at a healthy weight and eat real, whole foods.
Whole food recipes do not have to be hard to make, they can be eaten by everyone, and they can be made with normal, real-life foods.
As in, this is life, not a 'diet' where thinking about food all.the.time.(calorie counting, special meals, food journals) is usually part of the plan.
Life is more than food, more than weight, more than what you put in (or don't) your mouth.
These recipes are for everyone - they take the focus off of 'me and my weight' and put it on healthy, unprocessed food for the whole family.
But the byproduct? It's reaching a healthy weight like I did - and being able to keep it off because it's just the normal way of eating.

Yay!!!! So exciting. We just got home from our vacation and I'm attempting to play catch-up in Blogland and real life. The book is fantastic and you know I agree full-heartedly with the concept. I plan on reading it cover to cover again in the next couple weeks, and adding some of the recipes to our meal plan, once we're back into the swing of things around here. After eating waaaay too much for six days, the hubs and I need it! 🙂 And I'll definitely leave a review on Amazon.

Hi Jami, I've downloaded your new ebook and plan to get started on your common sense eating plan. Just one question: If the recipe says it makes 4 servings and I want to have the same success that you had, would I cut those servings in half? Hope that question makes sense. I have been reading your blog for several weeks and really enjoy it. I live in Atlanta in a condo without much of a yard so I get my gardening fix vicariously through you and your website. Love it! Sorry for the delay in replying, Susan - my daughter and nephew both graduated this weekend and we've been driving here and there with family parties and such. 🙂
Your question is a good one! When I make serving suggestions on my recipes, I'm usually thinking about feeding families - if the amount feeds my family of 4, I'll list it as four servings. If there are lots of leftovers I'll say 6 servings. It's mainly to let readers know the size of group it will probably feed. Now within that group are people with widely different portions - my husband who eats 3-4 times what I eat and my kids who eat more. And I figure most families are like that, hence the serving suggestions.
For my eating plan, though, you start by cutting in half whatever YOU have BEEN eating - regardless of what a recipe says a portion is. Why this works is because I know the amount I was eating wasn't giving me the weight I wanted, so cutting that in half was an easy way for me to cut my portions without having to weigh and measure things. Now sometimes I did need to measure something one time to get an idea of what it looked like in our bowls, etc., but for the most part I didn't need to think about it too much - just take half of what I normally took. And NOT having to think about food, calories, special meals, and what I could or couldn't have let me get on with my life and allowed me to focus on other things beside my diet. 🙂
