Why try to eat seasonally? Four reasons: You will save money, enjoy better flavor, eat food at it’s most nutritious, and help the environment.

For those of us wanting to live a simple homemade life, seasonal eating includes more than just what produce is in season! It also encompasses:

  • Produce that’s available locally that month.
  • Produce that is “globally seasonal” – in season that month but not grown locally (like citrus and pineapple).
  • Frozen fruits and veggies.
  • Home-canned and/or dried produce.
  • Food dictated by the weather (soups in winter, salads in summer, etc.).
