Make Vintage Jewelry Into Push Pins

    push-pins-from-jewelry

Costume jewelry is something that's easy to find at thrift stores, yard sales and flea markets. But figuring out what to do with old clip-on earrings is another thing - unless you make jewelry and can remake them into post earrings.

Or, um, that you would even want to wear them as earrings...which is not me.

Since I've always admired Ballard catalog's fun push pins, I raided my stash of vintage jewelry in order to create my own versions using the tops of clip earrings, broken bracelets and old brooches as well as a button or two thrown in for good measure. You can read all about these thrift store transformations - including all the steps to make your own - in the original post here.

The best part? They're super easy!

And I loved how they turned out so much I made a ton, packaged them up, and gave them for gifts. See a packaging idea in the original post, too.

    Pins on Bulletin-Board

I enjoy looking at them on my workroom bulletin board so much more than regular thumb tacks and push pins, so why not share the love?

I also have used the vintage jewelry that I've collected as decor in my workroom - housed in these sweet vintage mason jars with zinc lids, they make me smile.

I don't know about you, but that's the best kind of decor in my book.

31-days-thrift-store-transformationsThis is day 22 in our series (you can click on the button to see all the posts in the category). If you’re wondering what’s up, you can read the introduction to 31 Days of Thrift Store Transformations here.

I love these ideas. In addition to some mismatched or broken jewelry I have on hand, I also have some antique buttons from my grandmothers collection I haven't known what to do with. This would get them out of the button tin and into the open, plus give them a whole new life! Will definately try this for use on my girls corkboards where they display their artwork.

Yes, buttons are great, too. I like stacking them for a different look - and as a way to use smaller buttons. Won't that be wonderful to actually see the buttons from your grandma? I love using stuff that helps me remember people from my life!
