    Jump to Recipe

Make dinner time easy, and delicious with a Mediterranean pita tuna patties board. These pita tuna patties make a great quick meal idea that's ready in 30 minutes or less.

Perfect for busy weeknights or lazy weekends, you'll want this delicious and fun pita tuna patties platter in your rotation for an easy dinner option.

A few weeks ago when I made these quick tuna patties without breadcrumbs, I also had some fresh pita bread on hand and realized that I could put together a quick dinner by adding just a few more ingredients.

And with that, the Mediterranean Pita Tuna Patties board (or platter, or plate or whatever you'd like to call it) was born!

I'm so glad to add this to my menu rotation because it is good for both small gatherings and family dinners, is healthy, adaptable and easy to make any time of the year (I'm thinking it would especially shine in the summer months!).

What you'll need to make a Mediterranean pita tuna patties board

I pulled all the Greek flavored ingredients I had in the pantry and fridge, along with some veggies and created a simple and delicious dinner quickly, placing them all on a large tray.

For a sauce, you could use tzatziki, but I don't care for cucumbers so I always make a garlic-lemon yogurt sauce which is perfection with these pita sandwiches.

    • Pita Bread. While of course you can buy pita, I would encourage you to try this recipe at least once just to see the difference that homemade pita is from store bought. I do both, depending on the season, so do what you can, but put making pita on your list to try if you haven't yet - you'll be amazed!
    • Tuna Patties (made without breadcrumbs or mayo). A step above plain tuna salad to use in sandwiches, these just take the pita to a new level. So good.
    • Lettuce. Use any type you have - if it's a large leaf, slice it to fit in the pita's pockets better.
    • Onion. Any type, though red onion is more Greek-appropriate (which you can see I didn't have!).
    • Tomatoes. Cherry or larger tomatoes sliced both work well.
    • Olives. Either Kalamata olives or green olives, or both for a variety.
    • Pepperoncini. We love the briny flavor of these peppers in salads so they lend themselves well to the pitas. Totally optional, though. You could also try roasted red peppers.
    • Feta Cheese. Plain or flavored, crumbled or not, it's a must for the full Mediterranean flavor!
    • Lemon Slices, optional. A little squeeze of lemon after packing your pita? Perfection.
    • Garlic Yogurt Sauce (recipe below). Or a homemade or store-bought tzatziki.

How To Make Mediterranean Tuna Patties Pita Board

    • If making the pita bread, make it earlier in the day (or the day before) and store until needed.
    • About 30 minutes before you want to eat, make the tuna patties according to this recipe and mix up the sauce while they are resting in the freezer.
    • Mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, parsley and seasonings for the sauce.
    • Start cooking the tuna patties.
    • While they are cooking, prep the other ingredients, placing them in small bowls.
    • Arrange all the ingredients on a board, tray, or platter and serve.

    Easy Ingredient Swaps

Here are some different ways you can make this pita board and substitutions.

    • Use canned salmon instead of tuna and make salmon patties without breadcrumbs - both are equally wonderful.
    • To make gluten free, provide large lettuce leaves for tuna patty lettuce wraps.
    • Use a sheep-milk feta if you're avoiding cow dairy.
    • Make the yogurt sauce with a dairy-free yogurt.
    • Add anything else you'd like - spinach instead of lettuce, roasted or fresh red peppers and cucumbers are some ideas.

    Tips for Making

Everything can easily be made in advance, so this is perfect for entertaining or for prepping early in the day when you'll know it will be hot or you'll be busy.

I place everything on the tray except for the bread and cover with wrap and then set the whole tray in the fridge.

When it's time to eat, warm the pita and heat the tuna patties up before setting on the board and serving.
