Podcast Ep. 1: Dogs, DIY Floors & Grilling

In our first podcast episode ever we begin by talking about all the different kinds of DIY floors we’ve done in the past and what we found has worked best for dogs. At least 80-lb. dogs like ours. We discuss one of AOC’s most popular projects, the floor we created with brown paper. And then we end up discussing Jami’s favorite grilling recipes and how Brian has learned to quit burning them (this is huge!).

Join us for our first podcast as we talk about the DIY floors that work with dogs, the floor technique that got us in a magazine, and easy grilling menus. #diyfloors

You can download this episode fromĀ iTunes,Ā Google Play,Ā Stitcher, andĀ TuneIn Radio – or listen to it below right on your computer! DIY Floors & Dogs

DIY Floors-Jute rug on dark floors in cottage living room

Here you can see both the dark floors we added throughout our main living areas (love the contrast with the white walls!) and the infamous jute rug. Here’s more on the jute rug storyĀ (minus the following incident a few months later where we woke up to the surprise.)

DIY Floors-Diamond painted floor in laundry room

The diamond patterned floor Jami painted pre-dog. It wasn’t just the dog scratches that needed to be covered up, as you can see. This just wasn’t the floor for a busy mud-laundry room! You can see what we covered it with here.

The Project

Brown paper floor in bedroom

Above is what the brown paper floors looked like in our daughter’s room – the same room that was featured in Cottages & Bungalows. You can see it here in our son’s room makeover, too. And never one to hide behind a perfect facade, here is the master bedroom failed floor (and here’s what it looked like when we easily covered it with a floating wood floor).

If you’re interested in this flooring, here is the original video (complete with uh, interesting fashion choices) and the FAQ here answers all the questions we’ve gotten about it through the years.

  1. What a great idea! This podcast is totally fun! One can easily see how Jami and Brian love talking about their projects and sharing their wisdom and what they have learned along the way. They are light-hearted, funny and full of great ideas. Listening to this episode before tackling the paper floor project would definitely help the project go smoother. And who knew about infrared grills!! Sounds amazing. I can’t wait to dig into the show notes to get the links for their grilling recipes! Yumm! Can’t wait for more episodes!

    1. Thank you!! This would make a great iTunes review – would you mind adding this in iTunes? It would be super helpful since reviews are how we get found. šŸ™‚

  2. Love the podcast! I had trouble getting it to play…who knows? Maybe operator error? Anyway, on my third try, I got to hear episode one and I look forward to hearing more.
