Podcast Ep. 9: Unique Handmade Gifts & Food Gifts
In this episode, Brian tells the story of the hat-and-scarf combo that almost changed his mind about marrying Jami (!) and Jami talks about some of the unique homemade gifts she’s received that have meant the most. We talk about how to plan and make homemade gifts that are better than anything you can buy at the store. Jami dives into some popular food gifts that are easy to make, and where to find ideas and instructions. Plus, we reveal why there are so many strange noises in this episode – and the secret location we were while recording.

Unique Handmade Gifts
We LOVE handmade gifts and once we started giving handmade gifts at Christmas my whole family got on board with simple diy gifts and theyāve become the gifts we remember and love the most. It’s so fun to see what people come up with every year. I gathered what I still had around the house (food gifts get eaten right away!) and created this video to share some of the great ideas:

I have 6 nieces, now between the ages of 17 and 30. Years ago when they were between 5 and 18 I made all of them pillowcases and matching pajama pants for Christmas, taking care to match the fabric with their interests. They opened the gifts, said polite thank yous and tossed them aside. Not one notice of the homemade gifts, not even from their moms. I was deflated. I told my husband I will never again make homemade gifts for his family, because they prefer store bought. And I never did.
Until this Christmas. One of my nieces has a baby boy and I made him a little softie, in addition to a store bought gift. My nieces gushed over the homemade toy and then all my nieces and their moms started talking about how much they loved the pajama pants and pillowcases I had made them years ago. They wore them until they frayed and several said they still used the pillowcase! I wish I had known.
Oh, what a sad story Deborah – I wish you had known, too! I wonder why no one ever said how they liked them? I just blindly march on giving homemade gifts because that is what we can do and just hope they will enjoy them like your nieces did. š
